COVID-19 Response

Dear Friends of Middletown Humane Society,

As we are all doing what we can to prepare for the far reaching effects of COVID-19, we are writing to inform you about the plan we have put in place to ensure the safety of our adopters, volunteers, staff, and animals at the Middletown Humane Society. As you know, new information emerges each day, so please check our Facebook page for updates regarding our organizational response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

After much discussion, we are closing the shelter to the public until further notice. This includes all volunteers. Our dedicated staff will continue to give the utmost care to our animals. In addition, the staff will also be focusing on sanitizing all shared, public surfaces and resources on a frequent basis.

We will continue to process adoptions, but this will be done by appointment only. Please call the shelter to schedule an appointment. “Meet and Greet” showings for our dogs will take place in our outdoor, fenced-in area only. Showings for our cats will be handled on a case-by-case basis. Adoption applications are available online and have also been placed outside the shelter’s door.

As a non-profit organization, we are always accepting much needed donations. If you are able and willing to donate, we ask that you please leave donations on the table outside our front door. If you need a receipt for your donations, please leave a note that includes your name, address, and the dollar amount of your donation, and we will mail you a receipt. We are always in need of non-clumping cat litter, Purina One dog and puppy food, bleach, large trash bags, paper towels, toilet paper, and any different types of disinfecting cleaners.

To our longtime supporters who might be wondering, our Annual Brunch has been postponed. We will let you know as soon as we have scheduled a new date.

Middletown Humane Society is a participating Network Partner with Best Friends Animal Society, and we recommend that you visit the Best Friends Resource page to read more about what you need to know regarding pets and COVID-19.

Please know that we are dedicated to the health and well-being of our animals, and we are always so grateful for your support. Thank you, and best wishes and health to you all!

Sincerely,

The Staff and Board Members of the Middletown Humane Society
